Timekeeping Definitions from earlier in the year

Review Definitions

Time: Man-made measurement of past, present, and future.

History: A retelling and interpretation of the past.

Era: A period in/of time

A.D.(Anno Domini – In the year of Our Lord )/C.E.: Time from the birth of Jesus to today.

Fertile: Able to produce life; grow stuff. Life-giving.

Irrigation: Bringing water to land.

B.C./B.C.E.: Before the birth of Jesus.

Nomad: A person that wanders/ follows their food. Homeless.

Mesopotamia: A place that is present-day Iraq. Hammurabi wrote a law code there. One of the first civilizations. “The land between two rivers.”

Lesson Logs

Lesson Log for 05/12

Today, we reviewed yesterdays notes. I guided the students through the presentation below. They were responsible for answering the following questions:

1. Why did European nations like Spain, France, England, and Portugal want to colonize other areas?

2. Who were the conquistadors and why did they sail for Spain?

3. What did the conquistadors bring with them from Spain? What did they take from Latin America back to Spain and Europe? and

4. How did religion change in Latin America after Spain came to the area?
